Book Review - The Midwife's Confession

The Midwife's Confession by Diane Chamberlain. One decision can change the course of all of the lives closest to you! I read this book while on a 2-week vacation with my family. I took 2 books with me because I knew I'd have a lot of good reading time. We were flying from Florida to Seattle, then taking a cruise out of Vancouver, so I knew there'd be a lot of good reading time during the flights and train ride.

I got through this book so quickly, I was afraid I'd run out of reading before my vacation ended. From the 1st chapter, I was captivated as I have been at the start of every book I've read from this author.

The Midwife's Confession by Diane Chamberlain

Summary

I've read several books from Diane Chamberlain and have enjoyed every one of them. The Midwife's Confession was no exception.

From the first chapter I was captivated. When Tara and Emerson find out their best friend had committed suicide, they were utterly shocked. This took them completely by surprise. They had no idea that Noelle had been struggling in life.

She'd given up being a midwife. A decision her friends were not clear about why. She had never married and lived alone but was very close to their girls.

While going through her home and preparing to pack up her things they come across some information that may provide some clues about what lead to her taking her life.

From there, they begin their own sleuthing to try to learn about her past, the life she led before they all became friends. What they find out will change their lives forever!

Tara and Emerson realize that one devastating accident that took place during a child birthing and the 12 hours following would take Noelle down a path that she could not undo. A decision that she thought was the only one that could be made at the time, but one that would change the course of her friends' lives for the rest of theirs!

Review

This was a wonderfully woven story with many twists throughout. As always, Diane is thorough in her descriptions and character development. Early on, it's easy to feel as if you know Tara and Emerson and the value of their friendship. For anyone with a friendship that lasts a lifetime, you can understand how they survive the secrets that unfold.

You will not be disappointed after picking up this book on a rainy day.

Some of my other favorite Diane Chamberlain books are:

  • The Stolen Marriage... Doing the "right thing", Tess nearly loses the possibility of living a life of love and fulfillment.

  • Pretending to Dance... One of the first books I read of Diane Chamberlains... Molly must face her past and learn the truth in order to live the life she desperately seeks.

  • The Courage Tree... Two families, 2 dramas unfold deep in the West Virginia forest, two mothers trying to save their daughters. Only one is successful, changing the course of all lives involved in both family's. One of my favorites.
